Here we define the meaning of the terms 'Carer' and 'Personal Assistant' (PA)
A family member, friend or neighbour who is providing substantial or regular care to a disabled friend or relative.
A carer is often untrained, unrecognised and unpaid.
The term 'carer' is often used for this job description aswell, but this would be more accurately defined as a 'paid carer'or 'home visitor'.
Personal Assistant or PA is usually preferred by disabled people, as it is the only term which really accurately describes the job of enabling you to achieve greater choice and control in your life and therefore more independence.
People who are on Direct Payments and are looking to employ staff for care in their home will often advertise this position as 'PA required'.
