This award is designed for staff who deliver physical, emotional, or enabling care to clients, whether they work in health or social care, in the public, private or voluntary sectors. It is designed to be relevant for staff in all care settings.
This award is about the delivery of health and social care to individuals. This includes both direct care, where the focus is hands-on care (doing things for the individual) and enablement care, where the focus is on the development and maintenance of the indivdual's independence, supporting and enabling individuals to do things for themselves.
The award is structured so that a learner will achieve six units. For learners employed in a social care setting inspected be Commission for Social Care Inspection, learners must complete four core units and two optional units. For learners employed in a setting regulated by Skills for Health, learners must complete two core units and two optional units, plus a further two units selected from either the care or option group. (Please note employers and assessment centres will advise on selecting the most suitable units for each learner.)

There is a large choice of optional units to choose from, your assessor will be able to help you choose the most appropriate units according to your job role.
On completion of this programme you will be able to progress on to NVQ Health and Social Care Level 3 if your work role is suitable
