The train companies offer a high level of service to disabled people, from discounted rail tickets to assistance getting on and off trains and around the stations.
National Rail Service for Disabled Passengers
The Disabled Persons Railcard allows you to buy discounted rail tickets. If another adult is travelling with you, they can also travel at the same discounted fare. The Railcard currently costs £14 and is valid for 12 months.
To qualify, you must meet at least one of the criteria listed below. The application form lists the proof you will need to provide to confirm that you are eligible for a Railcard.
You qualify if you:
Children aged from 5 and under 16 may also be eligible for a Disabled Persons Railcard, if they can meet at least one of the required criteria. Although they only need to pay the normal child's fare, an adult can travel with them at the discounted rate of one third off the adult fare.
If you do not qualify for a Disabled Persons Railcard, you may be eligible for one of our other Railcards.
If you are 60 years old or over, 16 to 25 years old or, in some circumstances, if you are a mature student or if you travel with children, you may be eligible for one of our other Railcards (Senior, Young Persons and Family Railcards).
