Funding may be provided for families who are referred by social workers, health visitors or other caring agencies as desperate for a weeks’ holiday break. Applicants must not have had a holiday had a holiday within the past four years unless there are exceptional circumstances. Grants are paid to the agency for a holiday of the family’s choice (usually a holiday camp, caravan or stay with relatives). The total cost of the holiday is paid (holiday camp costs, food and travel expenses. Applications should be provided as early as possible (preferably November/December). Social worker should apply by letter requesting an application form and enclose a stamped addressed envelope.

Amongst others this charity provides recuperative holidays for those tired out by caring or suffering a nervous breakdown, for whom rest would be beneficial and who would be helped thereby to renew their own house and strength. There may be a preference for those whose exhaustion is due to their intensive care of others. Generally one-off grants are given for holidays mainly for carers needing a break-away from the people they are caring. They will not fund holidays abroad. Referral must be through a social worker, community nurse or other welfare agency. Details of need, recommended solution, dates (if applicable), which other charities have been approached and applicant’s weekly income and expenditure must be given. A preliminary phone call may be useful.

The fund provides one-off grants for professional women who are working or retired and in need of convalescence. Applications are considered throughout the year and can be submitted by the individual or through a recognised referral agency (social worker, citizen’s advice bureau or doctor etc.) Applications must be countersigned by a doctor. Application forms can be obtained from the trust.

Applications must be made by a social worker on behalf of a client as part of an overall treatment plan. The Grants Administrator is first contacted by letter and given a brief outline of the need. If funds are available and an application can be accepted, the application form is sent to the social worker. When this has been returned and processed it is then considered by the Grants Committee at their weekly meeting.

For residents of Greater London who have suffered mental ill health are within 5 years of leaving hospital and are in financial hardship. Grants are normally about £100 with an upper limit of £200. Due to pressure on funds grants for holidays are only made in cases of extreme need. Referral from professional worker.

The fund awards grants to enable disabled people to have a break at a specialist centre or nursing home of their choice. Priority is given to those living at home, cared for by a relative,those who live alone and those that require specialised transport to and from a respite centre.
