What is a home improvement agency?
Home Improvement Agencies are small, locally based not-for-profit organisations.
What do they do?
They help homeowners and private sector tenants who are older, disabled or on low income to repair, improve, maintain or adapt their homes. They provide people-centred, cost effective assistance, and help to tackle poor or unsuitable housing, enabling clients to remain in their own home, safe,secure, warm and independent.
Why are they needed?
The majority of us wish to remain in our own homes. However, the English House Condition Survey has identified that older people, disabled people and people living on low incomes are more likely to be living in a home which is unfit for human habitation, or in significant disrepair. It is widely recognised that such conditions can have a negative impact on health and quality of life.
Where can I find one for assistance?
