Sense Scotland works across Scotland with children and adults who have communication support needs because of deafblindness, sensory impairment, learning and physical disabilities.
One of our key areas of expertise is communication. Working closely with people, often on a one-to-one basis, we aim to find out what their aspirations are and how they want to live their lives. Our advisers work with individuals, families, carers and other professionals to ensure people receive the most appropriate support.

Sense Scotland aims to:
Established by the parents of deafblind children in the 1970s Sense Scotland was formalised as a charity in 1985. The organisation and its innovative work with disabled people has grown quickly. By the end of the 90’s the charity had opened family and day centres, and started supported and community living services from Glasgow through to Dundee. This period also saw the development of the Helen Keller International Award and the establishment of health and arts development projects.
As one of the country’s top community care providers, Sense Scotland now works with hundreds of children, adults and their families and has an annual turnover of £14.5 million. Recent developments include the growth of services in the north east and Highlands, development of outdoor education services, growing respite support across the country and the flagship resource TouchBase, due to open in Glasgow in 2007. The values which brought parents together in the 70s and most importantly the aspirations of the disabled people the charity works with, continue to be at the heart of the organisation.
