Support for Mental Health Carers

Thank you to Phil Partridge from Supporting Carers Better Network (SCB) who provided this information
We are most definitely carers, with much in common with other carers:
- usually, limited freedom due to unreasonable 'shifts'
- usually, no pay or support
- all-too-often, no recognition (from public or practitioners) for what we do
- many stresses and worries, often in getting specialist support for the person
- financial loss:extra needs and earnings curtailed, as can't safely leave a person.
But we also face some different 'challenges':
- the public's misunderstanding and therefore stigmatised attitude towards mental illness
- even when the person is well, the fear of 'What next ? - and when?' - No relaxing!
- as one carer put it 'We're the only carers who actually fear the person we care for.'
